Are you unfaithful?

People fall into two categories. You buy or are a given a tarot deck. In two or three weeks you have become tired of using the book to give readings to your friends, and you don't like the cards that come up for you. A month or so later, who knows where the deck is, next?

Or - slowly but surely the Tarot draws you in, you buy a better book than the one that came with the deck, the first of many. You have bookmarked a million tarot sites on the web, and are sleeping with the card you are currently learning about under your pillow.

And then the decks come ...

I live and breathe the Coleman Rider Waite deck. That is the deck I learned on and the one I always use for readings. But once the Tarot has you, there is whole galaxy of amazing decks out there, beautiful, whimsical, spiritual, historical, literary, collectible and and ....

I will do a show and tell on my own collection of decks one day soon.

And that's before you get into the Oracle decks!

Honestly I see the appeal of these, and the artwork is often sensational. I struggle with the rigid definitions that are often applied to them. And they are not Tarot, it's a different energy, a different process. But I have of course collected my fair share along the way.

But I do have a few I am very fond of, and one I turn to quite a lot is the Druid Plant Oracle by Philip and Stephanie Carr- Gomm with glorious illustrations by Will Worthington. The herbalist kitchen witch in me really responds to so much about this deck. Each card is rich with imagery, I keep finding elements I had missed before. It's a great deck to use for yourself. And I find it interesting to check with when a particular plant is making itself known to me. This was exactly right when I kept noticing a large lush patch of clover on my daily walk, I turned to this deck to see what was going on and it was spot on.

Do you need lots of decks? No of course not. Will you end up with lots of decks? Most likely. I do cull occasionally when I feel the energy of a particular deck, tarot or oracle, is not there for me anymore, usually I on-gift them. Like anything else in our lives that is an interest or a passion, there should be joy, fun and pleasure to be had from the decks you use. Life is too short not to be surrounded by things that have meaning for you!
