The journey starts here, The Fool is the first card in the major arcana of the Tarot. He has no number, beginning in the emptiness of zero. Zero is nothing yes, but it has the potential for everything!
The vagabond, the one who starts out on his journey with nothing but a small bundle and a little dog as his companion. There is power in the trust of putting your foot on the path, in taking that first step on your journey.
This is not the time for fear or hesitation. Now is the time to step out in innocence and anticipation, seek joy, seek unexpected companionship along the way, make sure you dance along your path.
The Fool has no time for authority or hierarchy, if we look closely we see the stick over one shoulder with all his worldly possessions is actually the wand or staff of a wizard. These symbols have no meaning in beginnings, everything is useful or discarded.
In this rendition from the Phantasmagoric Theatre Tarot deck we see him under the swirling stars of the night sky, in many other decks he ventures forth under the blessing of the sun.
Sometimes the little dog dances along with him, a companion in the pleasure of the moment.
Welcome the Fool, new beginnings are treasures and we all should just be under the sun enjoying our path from time to time. Let go and trust he is telling you.
I always use the Rider Waite deck for readings but have of course, over the years gathered a collection of decks, and I love this one in particular. It challenges a lot of the usual imagery of the Tarot and brings a wild, slightly dark energy, softened by the beautiful colour choices.
