Oracle cards v. Tarot cards

What is the difference?

Is there one?

Publishing trends over the last decade or more have seen a massive increase in the number and variety of card decks on the market. Alongside the steady growth in various types of Tarot we now also have decks for divination with any possible motif or theme you could imagine.

But how do they differ?

For me the Oracle decks (which I love) are more ideal for a single question or some simple guidance for the day or a particular situation. Of course the Tarot works well here too, but sometimes the direct option of drawing that single card is more appealing at the time.

Many Oracle decks come with information that show some simple spreads you can use for a reading which is great. But for me in terms of a full reading they lack the detail and scope that the Tarot offers.

Use both I say! The Tarot is my blood and bones but I still have a big collection of these Oracle decks and use them all the time. And I think the Oracle decks manage to be fun, inspiring and helpful at the same time; and are a great starting place for someone wanting to delve into the world of card divination. And these decks are usually beautifully illustrated, so there is a lot to enjoy in the process.
